Business Plan Secret #1 – Sell Yourself

Most people are notoriously bad at selling themselves – they are either too modest or go about it in the wrong way. This is true in job interviews, LinkedIn profiles and yes – when preparing a business plan. When clients seek me out for Business Plan Help Vancouver my job is to highlight their strengths as a manager.

Your business plan is not a place to be modest.

A bank loan manager is going to look at you and wonder if you are to be trusted with financing. Your job is to build trust and credibility in the eyes of the reader.

This can be accomplished in many ways:

  1. Detail Your Related Industry Experience – If you have any related industry experience you should showcase it. Quantify things like: exactly how many years you have in each area, what role you played, and what transferable skills you developed.

  2. Showcase Your Management Experience – Showcase all past experience where you held a management role, even if it’s from a different industry. All management experience is valuable.

  3. Highlight Any Entrepreneurial Experience – If you are looking to launch a new business, don’t forget to include those 2 years you spent helping in your family business. Include menials tasks such as hiring/scheduling staff, payroll or ordering from suppliers. Any experience operating a business is valuable.

  4. Show Why You’re the Ideal Person to Run This Business – Don’t be shy, but rather describe your unique approach. Explain how you 10X’d sales in your past job. Tell us how insanely passionate you are about the product or what others in your industry are doing wrong. Show us why you are the ideal person to drive this business concept to success.
